New Patient Forms
Dr. Baer and Dr. DeLine are dedicated to providing their patients with the least invasive, most precise options available, allowing patients to get back to their everyday activities as quickly as possible. Minimally Invasive Procedures use advanced technologies to avoid the need for large incisions used in traditional open procedures.
What is Laparoscopy? During a laparoscopic procedure, several small incisions are made in the abdomen. Carbon dioxide gas is passed into the abdominal cavity in order to move the abdominal wall away from the organs and therefore create a larger area in which to work. Through one of the incisions, the surgeon then inserts a laparoscope. This is a tiny camera that projects the images it records onto a large monitor, allowing the surgeon to see inside of the body without having to make a long incision. The advantages of laparoscopy are numerous and include the following:
Benefits of Laparoscopic Surgery:
Less pain and discomfort after surgery
Faster recovery
Smaller more discreet scars and less internal scarring
Shorter hospital stay
Reduced hemorrhaging due to smaller incisions
Decreased risk of post-operative infection due to reduced exposure of internal organs
What is Advanced Laparoscopy? Advanced laparoscopy involves surgery to remove solid organs (like the spleen), removal of part of the colon, stomach or intestines, and repair of incisional hernias.
What is daVinci Surgery? DaVinci surgery, a similar technique to standard laparoscopic surgery, is a more minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgical approach. The surgeon is 100% in control of the robotic-assisted daVinci system, which translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of the instruments inside the patient's body. The daVinci system features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system that enables the surgeon to operate with enhanced vision and precision. The daVinci system offers patients both multi-port and single-site options, the most appropriate treatment or surgical option for your health condition and personal concerns will be discussed with your surgeon during your consultation appointment.
Benefits of daVinci Surgery:
What is Open Surgery? Open surgery is performed through a larger incision that allows access for the hands of the surgeon to perform procedures not amendable to Laparoscopic or daVinci Surgery.
Dr. Baer and Dr. DeLine believe that practicing medicine is about putting patients first. They are dedicated to informing patients about all treatment and surgical options available to them, as well as the risks and benefits of each. Together you and your surgeon will decide the best option for you.
